The PerformersThe St. Matthew Passion will feature 42 dancers from the Hamburg Ballet, one of the world’s foremost companies. International tours have made it not only a highlight of the international ballet scene, but also one of Germany’s most important cultural ambassadors. "John Neumeier has few rivals in the pursuit of illuminating the full range of human emotions through the art of dance," said Christopher Koelsch, LA Opera's president and CEO.

Your generous donations ensure that this theatre remains alive an active for generations to come. $1 of every ticket is set aside for Historic Preservation but there is always maintenance to be done. Consider becoming a member of our Springer Society and give annually to Support the Springer. In 2013 we completed a 11.5 million dollar capital campaign to build a second space theatre adjacent to our historic structure. This was named The McClure Theatre, after Dot McClure, one of our biggest community advocates.

Staged by director/puppeteer Basil Twist and featuring the vocal ensemble Ars Nova Copenhagen, the compelling new piece will be LA Opera's 12th collaboration with the groundbreaking Beth Morrison Projects. Told through the lens of our modern-day relationship with the natural world, the ancient stories of creation and destruction conjure a sense of respect and awe for the environment and the water stories challenge us to be good stewards of the natural resources we have been given. The Book of Mountains and Seas contains timeless codes about the universe, creation, planet, nature, life, human ambition and fate, the relationship and interaction between mankind and the world we live in. Mexico’s most iconic artists leap off the canvas in this operatic tribute to one of the most pivotal romances in history, created by Grammy-winning composer Gabriela Lena Frank and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz. When a desperate wish on Day of the Dead reunites the pair, Diego Rivera jumps at the chance to seek forgiveness from his deceased wife, Frida Kahlo. But she refuses to return to the world that caused her so much pain, until another departed soul inspires her to look back at the art (and man) she once loved.

For Francis Joseph Springer, an immigrant from Alsace and the principal investor and eventually full owner of the opera house that bears his name, this was an opportunity to bring a bit of old world civilization to the Chattahoochee River Valley. The theater, designed by Daniel Matthew Foley, occupied a three-story brick hotel on the northeast corner of First Avenue and Tenth Street. It opened on February 21, 1871, but gained even greater success following a 1900 expansion and remodel by theater specialist J.

The Springer is not only the State Theatre of Georgia, it is also one of only seven theatres in the United States producing theatre in a National Historic Landmark. It offers a yearly season of three play series - the Mainstage Series in Emily Woodruff Hall and the Studio II Series in the brand new McClure Theatre and the Springer Children's Theatre Series in both the Mainstage Theatre and McClure Theatre. Our new initiative in education, the PAIR Program, connects teaching artists with students across the district and trains teachers to use the arts as tools to reinforce core subjects. That’s why we’ve launched Heart of the Springer, our program to support local nonprofits and rewards you for doing the same. There's star power aplenty in this blockbuster production with sets designed by art legend David Hockney.

The sensational Angela Meade makes her role debut as Turandot opposite Artist in Residence Russell Thomas as her fearless suitor Calaf. The vocal soloists will include tenor Joshua Blue and baritone Michael Sumuel, making their company debuts as the Evangelist and as Jesus, respectively. Also featured are soprano Tamara Wilson, mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, tenor Ben Bliss and bass Kristinn Sigmundsson. The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion has been the site of unparalleled performances by stunning music luminaries and virtuosos. It was the home of the LA Philharmonic for decades and the site for more than 20 Academy Awards presentations between 1969 and 1999. It has been the home of LA Opera since 1986, sharing its stage with Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center.

In 1998–1999, a comprehensive historic renovation of the theater included the renovation of the decorative painting of the proscenium arch, an extensive use of Bradbury and Bradbury historic wallpapers, and the rediscovery of previously unknown painting designs on the underside of both balconies. The project also included doubling the space available to the theater and equipping the facility with state-of-the-art technology in lighting, sound engineering, rigging, technical support equipment, and new rehearsal and studio performance space. The Springer stood vacant for five years, and without a preservation program established in Columbus, it appeared the building would be demolished. Actors from the Columbus Little Theater and a group of civic leaders began a campaign to save the opera house, an event which is credited as spearheading a citywide historic preservation movement.

Rachel Willis-Sørensen, one of the most acclaimed American sopranos of her generation, portrays the glamorous Violetta, whose time is quickly running out. Verdi master James Conlon conducts one of opera’s most enduring tragedies in a vibrant new-to-L.A. Production that shines the spotlight on Violetta’s tragic attempts to outrun her fate. The theater’s main auditorium remains one of the most splendid architectural theater interiors in the country.

It all started when…

Benjamin Britten’s charming opera for all ages will return to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, conducted by Music Director James Conlon. Two community performances will be presented free of charge for family audiences, featuring several hundred student and amateur performers along with professional soloists and musicians from LA Opera.Presented at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels (555 W. Temple Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012). About the St. Matthew PassionBach's St. Matthew Passion, first performed in 1727, is considered by many to be the single greatest masterpiece of Western sacred music. Created to be performed in church during Holy Week before Easter, the Passion is ambitious in its scope and musical means, requiring two adult choruses plus a third children’s choir, two chamber orchestras with, ideally, two organs, and six vocal soloists. The profoundly moving story, taken from the Gospel of Matthew, relates the last few days in the life of Jesus. The chief storyteller is the Evangelist, a role for high tenor, and a baritone soloist sings the words of Jesus.

The other vocal soloists are heard in arias that express emotional reactions to the events of the story. McElfatrick expanded the building eastward to accommodate a taller main stage, second balcony, and space for other sources of revenue such as hotel rooms, office space, and restaurants. The brick facade features evenly spaced windows with pressed metal lintels on the upper two stories and stone sills; a pressed metal cornice wraps around the building. In 1869, the Public Hall Association proposed a performance hall for the city of Columbus in western Georgia.

The great depression and the decrease of industrial output by the mills, began a downfall for the Springer. Francis Joseph had to eventually sell the Springer Opera House to the Martin Theatre company. Once home to so many celebrity performers, it now was nothing more than another movie house. The Springer plans to return indoors for the upcoming season employing safety measures such as reduced capacities, distanced seating between parties, mask-wearing & more. A fantastical world of sunbirds, demons and hairy giants is evoked in The Book of Mountains and Seas, a work of vocal theater for 12 singers, two percussionists and six puppet masters. Composer/librettist Huang Ruo took inspiration from a classic compilation of Chinese mythology, first transcribed in the fourth century B.C.

One year after restoring connections to its roots as a downtown movie palace, the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State University has announced successes from its first year of operation featuring the historic venue’s new Digital Cinema Projection (DCP) projector and larger Stewart cinema screen. The evening began with a welcome from managing director Danielle Varner who gave an update on the state of the theater. Varner cited "Olympic-sized pivoting" and innovation by the Springer's staff and board, along with the consummate support of the Springer's patrons for making it through the uncertainty of the pandemic.

These volunteers worked tirelessly to save the Springer from the Wrecking ball and worked to restore her to her full glory, thus becoming the original Board of Trustees for the Springer and founding Historic Columbus, sparking a new wave of historic preservation in Columbus. As time wore on, the building was used less frequently until the halls of the Springer were homes only to the ghosts. With the opening of the hotel, the Springer expanded as tourists traveled longer distances to attend performances. This growth revitalized the community and in 1901, FJ Springer completed a remodel of the theatre, to increase it’s capacity to over 1000 seats.

During her time as resident costume designer, at the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, she led a team of Springer staff members and volunteers to help construct over 3000 face masks using fabrics from Springer costumes to donate to Piedmont Regional Healthcare when they were in need of masks for their patients. Even in retirement, Dawson continues to help design costumes for local projects. When the Springer was built in 1871, it was the nicest theatre between New York and New Orleans, so it served as a venue where shows traveling from the Big Apple to the Big Easy could recoup some of their travel expenses. As a result, such noteworthy performers as Edwin Booth, Buffalo Bill, John Philip Sousa, Ma Rainey, Tom Thumb, Burt Reynolds, Oscar Wilde, Garrison Keillor, Chet Atkins and W.C.

A 1964 restoration included stabilizing the main auditorium, ground-floor spaces, and a portion of the second floor. As it neared its centennial year, the opera house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and President Jimmy Carter named the building Georgia’s State Theater for its centennial. Seven years later the Springer Opera House was designated a National Historic Landmark. Several additional performances will be presented in other venues through the company's Off Grand and Connects initiatives. As early as 1915, Springer started showing motion pictures on a regular basis and the slow decline of theater began. The building remained a venue for both movies and live theater until the Depression, but by 1931 theater performances ceased, and the opera house tried to survive as movie house.

Vaccination PolicyIn order to be considered fully vaccinated, patrons must confirm that either 14 days have passed since receiving the second dose of FDA or WHO authorized double-dose vaccines or that 14 days have passed since receiving the sole dose of FDA or WHO authorized single-dose vaccines. Audience members may display proof of vaccine on a smartphone or by showing a physical copy of their vaccination card or official vaccination record, along with a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license or passport. Those under 12 must be accompanied by an adult who meets the listed requirements.

The “grand ole lady” among Southern theaters, the Springer Opera House once again displays her beauty, and one can only applaud the performance of the building itself on those occasions when, as a theatergoer, one has a “night on the town” in Edwardian Columbus. Come VisitWhen the Springer opened in 1871, it was the grandest theatre between New York and New Orleans, so it served as a venue where shows traveling from the Big Apple to the Big Easy could perform and recoup some of their travel expense. As a result, such noteworthy performers as Edwin Booth, Buffalo Bill, John Phillip Sousa, Ma Rainey, Ethel Barrymore, Tom Thumb, Burt Reynolds, Oscar Wilde, Garrison Keillor, Hal Holbrook, Chet Atkins and W.C. Any trip to Columbus is incomplete without a tour of the State Theatre of Georgia.

The interior of the theater is an elegant five-story space draped in honey-toned onyx and features 78 crystal light fixtures including three stunning chandeliers each made with 24,000 individual pieces of hand-polished crystal from Munich. In 1959 the Springer closed, and in the Spring of 1964, The Columbus Little Theater Opera House Trustees was formed to prevent its destruction. On October 6, 1965, The Little Theater's musical production of St. Elmo, based upon the Victorian novel by Columbus-born author, Augusta Evans Wilson, was presented amidst the Springer's restored Victorian splendor. She served as the Springer's full-time resident costume designer for three years before retiring in 2021.

If you’re into beers with corn-sweet, floral-hopped, crisp, refreshing beers, this is the one for you. With a name like ‘Howdy Beer’, you should assume that this is a classic, no-frills beer. This Colorado-brewed pilsner was created to taste like a beer a cowboy might want to drink after a long day roping cattle. But even if your work is behind a computer, you can enjoy this crisp, thirst-quenching malty, lightly hoppy beer. It’s not overly exciting when it comes to aroma and palate, but that’s not the point. This no-frills, cheap, thirst-quenching American adjunct lager is as classic as beer gets.

These days, Mr. Burkey, now 78, walks gingerly with a cane around the modest home they built and worries about paying for the diabetes medicine prescribed by his family doctor. The medicine has worked well, melting off the pounds and greatly reducing his blood sugar. Nearly 50 years ago, Bob Burkey and his wife Paulette would work all day, come home to their single-wide trailer for supper, then spend evenings clearing trees with chainsaws in a Westmoreland County glen where they would eventually build their new home. We love it here since it's right across the street from our hotel. What sets May apart, however, isn’t that there are so many art fairs—when are there not, at this point—but that so many are right here in New York, a quick subway ride from Observer headquarters. As the malt germinates, heat dissipates through the floor and by aerating the grains by turning them over with a rake every eight hours.

And for that, you’ll need at least one burgage plot (Level 2) with a brewery extension (5 Regional Wealth, 5 planks). That will need to be supplied with malt from a malthouse (4 timber). That, in turn, will need a supply of barley either from a field and farmhouse (3 timber) or from importing it through a trading post. Technically, you can import anything in that supply chain including ale, but that’s really expensive. Complex aromas of lemon peels, honey, freshly baked bread, yeast, cereal grains, and floral hops greet your nostrils before your first sip.

The craft malt revolution, if it’s to occur at all, will need to start on the farm. “The challenge is always going to be how much local barley is available,” says professor Bamforth. UC Davis has a breeding program for malting barley and is constantly creating new varieties. But those will always be competing for real estate with rice and corn, Bamforth explains. For clothing, you don’t actually need to be making full-on clothes.

— In 2004, rural counties experienced more than 35,000 additional deaths each year when compared to urban counties, according to research conducted by Mr. Cosby and others that appeared in the American Journal of Public Health. As German-style pilsners go, it’s tough to beat the appeal of North Coast Scrimshaw. This is a very well-balanced, but still sessionable lager. It has malt sweetness up front and a nice kick of Noble hops at the finish. When Helvitiq, a Swiss publishing house, proposed “Beer Hiking” in August 2022, Flashman wasted no time hitting the trails, the breweries and the keyboard. Last week, a warrant was issued for Boyle's arrest after he allegedly violated a protection from abuse order by texting his estranged wife.

DRAFT BEERS:

It doesn’t help that even as efforts expand to improve access to doctors and medical care via telemedicine, internet service in many rural areas is unreliable. Effective May 1, funding for the FCC’s $30-a-month subsidy for low-income people — a 2-year-old program that was part of the federal government’s Internet for All initiative — runs out. The folks at Cincinnati’s Rhinegeist set out to make a classic, crisp, easy-drinking, balanced lager and did just that with Cheetah. It’s a malt-forward, gently hoppy lager that you can sip all year long. If you’re a fan of Miller High Life, you’ll love this refreshing lager.

If you’ve never tried this beer, what are you waiting for? It’s a complex, well-balanced take on the no-frills, crisp lager style. Bell’s used to make a crisp lager called Lager of the Lakes, but that beer was discontinued in favor of its new Lager for the Lakes. This version is a crisp, clean pilsner that was created to bring awareness to the need to preserve and protect clean lakes. That being said, it’s totally crushable and thirst-quenching as well. Fair scene newbie Esther made headlines in February when it announced its May arrival.

Burgage plots (Level 3) get you 2 Regional Wealth per family per month. It also doubles the number of families that plot can support — meaning you’ll get two families for a regular plot or four for a plot with a living space expansion built. The basic unit of Manor Lords’ workforce is the family, and families need a place to live.

The over-65 population in the two counties exceeds the statewide average while median household income in the two-county area is lower than Pennsylvania overall. Research has long shown the people living in rural areas skew older, less healthy and less affluent, and that’s certainly true in southwest Pennsylvania. In many rural areas, health systems have been shuttering primary care offices, closing maternity units, ending joint replacement surgery and discontinuing chemotherapy, which has reduced some rural hospitals to little more than urgent care outposts. At a time when pharmacists lose over $100 filling brand name prescriptions like Ozempic, the sting pinches most in rural Western Pennsylvania drugstores, where mounting losses have pushed more than a dozen pharmacies out of business in recent months. If you only drink one beer on this list, make it SingleCut Frequency. It’s classic, crisp, and loaded with authentic German aromas and flavors.

If you’ve got the Regional Wealth, you can add a vegetable garden, chicken coop, or goat shed. Burgage plots are the basic building block of your town in Manor Lords. They’re where your town’s families build houses, they generate income for your treasury, and they’re also how you’ll build a number of important workshops in backyard extensions. The seventeenth annual American Art Fair will be held, as per usual, at the Upper East Side’s neo-Renaissance Bohemian National Hall.

The office receives no compensation for the additional work. In the coming months, Admiral hopes to install its own taproom, with as many as 20 taps of beer made with its malt and windows facing into the malting facility itself. Another market, and Admiral Malting’s biggest customer to date, is craft distilling, an industry that’s perhaps poised for a boom of its own. St. George Spirits, Admiral Maltings’ Alameda neighbor, will distill whisky with the company’s craft malt. Meanwhile, Almanac Beer Co. is building a brewery literally under the same roof as Admiral, and plans to get its malt right from the source.

Whether its happy hour, date night, or your wedding reception, the team offers a selection of craft beers, cocktails, and an extensive American menu featuring some of New York's top ranked burgers. The Malt House embodies an old fashioned American tavern, with its exposed brick walls, tufted leather banquettes and long wood bar. A rotating selection of 24 beers on draft and another 15 or so in bottles offers plenty of options for the suds lover, while booze hounds can order flights of American, Scottish or Irish whiskey ($28 each).

Christine Hackney, the nurse’s aide in the office, said she, too, was relieved that Mr. Burkey was accepted into the discount drug program. But the reasons for the rural health disparities go beyond demographics. Rural demographics tell the story of the rural health penalty.

Sapiens (sapes, as the slur goes) is now also second class citizens, suffering the ridicule, indignity, and the same constant fear of persecution that mutants had to endure for so long.

But her brother, Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver, relays news of the plan to Magneto, who secrets his daughter away, where she casts a spell that rewrites all of reality, creating a new world ruled by mutants with Magneto and his dynasty at the top – the titular House of M.

And even narrowing down the potential consequences to the simple basis of Scarlet Witch's comic book story hints at potentially massive ramifications down the line. As a result of House of M, the Skrulls, who long sought to conquer Earth, saw an opening with the reduction in the number of mutants to strike, launching an insidious infiltration campaign to replace some of Earth's heroes including the Avengers, X-Men, and more, and take over the world. That story, Secret Invasion, led Spider-Man's one-time arch-enemy Norman Osborn (a.k.a. the Green Goblin) to become the leader of a new world security force titled HAMMER which replaced SHIELD after defeating the leader of the Skrulls. This event, called 'M-Day,' has colored X-Men stories for years since, with the direct ramifications still playing out in the 'Dawn of X' era, where mutants can be resurrected and their powers restored by powerful rituals and science.

Meanwhile, Xavier arranges a meeting of the Avengers, the X-Men, and several lone heroes at Avengers Tower to decide the fate of Wanda Maximoff. Emma Frost concludes that killing Wanda is the only way to end her destructive magic. Captain America argues that the group should seek alternate methods of dealing with Wanda, including suppression of her powers and her insanity. Wolverine speaks up, saying that there is no other way—Wanda must be killed. The rest of the group decides that they must talk to Wanda in person before making their decision.

The Columbia University Board of Trustees released a statement Wednesday saying they strongly support President Minouche Shafik, who has faced calls for her resignation amid intense pressure to rein in days-long protests. The university "supports free speech through open dialogue that is respectful and constructive," the officials said. Graffiti described as “hateful” has been painted on campus, the officials said. It turns out that Quicksilver himself was the one responsible for the creation of the alternate world, conspiring with Wanda to make everyone happy in an almost perfect world. Depp is definitely known for his style and his slick shades are a huge part of that considering he wears them on the red carpet all the time. Our insider tells us that Lemtosh Sun from Moscot is his preferred sunglass of choice in recent years. By the way, our insider happens to be Moscot themselves who have a page dedicated to him here. There’s even a scuba diving spot not far from the island that Depp calls “Heath’s place” after the late actor Heath Ledger.

The island has been Depp’s private slice of paradise since 2004, but it was recently listed for sale as he is trying to liquidate his assets at the moment. He finally decided to trust his accountant and management when they said he had to downsize a bit. Named “Little Hall’s Pond Cay”, the island is 45 acres and features 6 beaches, which Depp named Paradis, Lily Rose, Jack, Brando, and Gonzo.

An observation level is open to the public on the 27th floor. As this ample interior space is named, the Mayor Tom Bradley Room is used for ceremonies and other special occasions. There are over a dozen structures that collectively measure over 10,000 square feet and boast a whopping 15-bedrooms and 14-bathrooms. Some of the most notable features to the village include a church that Depp converted into a guest house, a swimming pool, a private restaurant named “Cafe Marcheline”, and an art studio. Johnny Depp bought the property in 1995 for $1.8 million. It’s reported that the compound has 5 houses.

After purchasing the village, Depp threw down an additional $10 million to restore and update many of the stone buildings on the estate. He is mainly of European descent; however, there is a bit of an interesting detail in the background of his ancestry. He can be traced back to a black slave named Martha whose daughter was the first female slave to free herself using the legal system. Elizabeth Key’s father was a white Englishman and she used the fact that she had an English father as her defense to win freedom for both her and her son. The unit featured vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls in the master suite as well as a marble bathroom and a lounge area.

He has property in Los Angeles, France (he owns a village, guys!), and the Bahamas (he owns an island, guys!). Recent reports state that Depp also recently purchased an estate in Somerset, England in 2023 – though nothing about the property has been revealed yet. It’s called Le Plan-de-la-Tour, France and is ten miles from Saint-Tropez, France.
